There are possibilities of visits to many different museums in Guldborgsund County. Guldborgsund Museum
In Nykøbing F you will find Guldborgsund Museum (Falster’s Memories) in the beautiful Czarens hus (House of the Czar) – the beautiful, half-timbered house from the 17th century. The exhibition covers the periods from the early Middle Ages up till the present time. An attraction is interiors such as the charming street where you can go window shopping at the shops and artisans of the 19th century. The toys of the past are a hit with the children – and then there is a special exhibition about the former Nykøbing Castle which has been torn down. Nykøbing F. Frisør Museum (hairdressers’ museum)
- in Strandgade 16, is a private collection of whole saloons, hairdressers’ articles and interesting instruments used by hairdressers through time. Nykøbing F Brandmuseum (Nykøbing F Fire Museum)
In the fire museum, Vendersgade 6, you may see a row of beautifully restored fire engines and ambulances of which several are still able to run. Marielyst SportsCars
- in Stovby is an automobile museum with 65 classical sports cars – and the possibility of driving an ”oldtimer” yourself. Bøtø Nor Gl. pumpestation i Marrebæk (Bøtø Cove Old Pump Station)
- which was important to the draining of large parts of the Marielyst area is from1871 and contains a flood museum among other things. Gedesby Mølle (Gedesby Mill)
- which was in use from 1911-1947 is the most southern Dutch windmill in the country. Gedser Remise (Gedser Engine Shed)
- from the later half of the 1800s is today a working rail museum where old locomotives and carriages are restored to their original state. Det Sorte Museum (The Black Museum)
- on Skolevej 2B in Gedser presents fossils, rocks, minerals and amber found along the coasts of Falster.
The local collection has been supplemented with exciting minerals from other places in the world. The northern part of Falster offers furthermore two museums for the technically interested: Danmarks Traktormuseum (Denmark’s Tractor Museum)
- in Eskilstrup – is the largest collection in northern Europe of more than 200 vehicles and motors. Stubbekøbing Motorcykel- og Radiomuseum (Stubbekøbing Motorcycle and Radio Museum)
- has an exhibition of more than 150 historical motorcycles as well as old grammophones, radios and televisions. |
